Technology

Great technology is no substitute for great teaching.

Combine them, however, and a world of possibility opens. St. Paul’s Episcopal School has been a wireless campus since 1999 and was the first school in Mobile to adopt a one-to-one laptop program for our students. As for great teachers? They’ve been here since Day One.
At St. Paul's Episcopal School we believe that creativity is thinking new things and innovation is doing new things. Technology helps our students and teachers do both. Learning at St. Paul’s isn’t a passive activity; our students learn by "doing," both inside and outside of the classroom. They are artists, writers, scientists, athletes, and mathematicians who seriously enjoy using their emerging skills to solve, create, compute, and compete to be their personal best. St. Paul's has long been a leader in the adoption of learning technology, and our leadership continues to this day.  From its start in the early 1980s with a ten-station lab, the technology department has developed a campus-wide network connecting all classrooms.

  • More than 1300 devices connect to the network via wireless access points installed throughout both campuses.
  • Grades PreK-2 have access to over 90 Apple iPads.
  • Third and fourth graders have their own computer lab.
  • Interactive whiteboards are in every PreK through 4th grade classroom.
  • Fifth through twelfth graders participate in a one-to-one laptop program.
  • A warranty repair center is located on campus to service student laptops.
  • Loaner devices are available to students who have their device in the shop for repair.
  • To standardize software, we participate in volume licensing agreements with Microsoft and Adobe.
  • A variety of digital resources, computer software, network printing and network storage are provided for all students.
St. Paul's implementation of technology assures that our teachers are no longer bound by a fixed curriculum found in a single textbook. The use of improved and up to the minute materials encourages a more innovative and creative environment for both teachers and students. As a community, we continually work to develop new lessons and instructional strategies which leverage the potential of technology to provide learning experiences not available in the traditional classroom.
